John Grant, “Pale Green Ghosts” (Xinobi Remix)
Nothing makes us lose interest in an artist more quickly than if they’re described as a singer-songwriter, but John Grant is the exception that proves the rule with this willingness to go beyond the “sad man with guitars has woes but he can fix them if he gets to bone you” trope, both sonically and lyrically. His new album, Pale Green Ghosts (iTunes | Amazon) was produced by Biggi Veir from Gus Gus and features wall-of-sound electronics and quiet, introspective moments providing an equilibrium and drive normally missing from the genre. This remix from Bruno Cardoso points the title track towards the dancefloor, even as it keeps the grit and warmth of Grant’s lyrics intact. A stunning, emotional track.
