Disco Potential is a music blog devoted (but not limited to) disco, house and synthpop records. It is maintained by Kevin Church, who also writes comics, occasionally talks about other people's work, takes pictures and does internet marketing for hire.

If you have a record you think would fit in here, email a link/mp3 to kevin@discopotential.com

Disco Potential has had a monthly residency at River Gods in Cambridge, MA featuring the sort of music presented here, mixed live. The final event will be held on Friday, June 7.

Click here to view every Disco Potential mix currently available.
(If you scroll down, there is a list featuring links to individual ones.) Collect them all!

To enjoy Disco Potential's music nonstop, visit the site's Trntbl.me page.

Kevin is on Twitter.

In addition to Disco Potential, Kevin also maintains the Agreeable Comics tumblr, which acts as an adjunct to his small publishing concern as well as They Boldly Went, a tumblr dedicated to Star Trek: The Original Series. His personal tumblr is located here.

Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding, “I Need Your Love” (Louis La Roche Remix)

Big synths and chopped-up vocals make this polish of one of the better tracks on Harris’s most recent record a must-listen.

Just a quick note…

…to say that Tumblr has been very cranky on our end today (probably because of stupid things like hurricanes plowing through Manhattan,) so we’ll probably just wait until tomorrow to post. You probably have more important things to do right now anyway. In the meantime, we recommend picking up the new Calvin Harris album 18 Months if you want to listen to some very stupid, formulaic, but undeniably well-produced EDM.

Calvin Harris, “The Girls” (Cendrim Remix)

We’re a sucker for Calvin Harris here at Disco Potential Manor and this over-the-top, Madeon-influenced dancefloor reworking is just about perfect. Go and click and download for your own nefarious purposes.

Calvin Harris featuring Ne-Yo, “Let’s Go” (Pittman Remix)

Calvin Harris becoming the go-to producer for R&B types needing a dancefloor hit is a bit weird, but it works perfectly and we really like this slightly housier take on his latest single, even if we’re a little bummed out by how ubiquitous his big acid-tinged melodies are getting to be.

Here are some of the records I liked and played a lot in 2011. They come from genres such as progressive house, dance pop, electro house and trance. This is not a subtle mix. It is not a perfect mix. I hope you enjoy it anyway. You can right-click to download it here. (153mb mp3, 1:23:25)

  1. First Light - The 8th Note & Mr. Clark
  2. Girls With Bangs (Tiesto Remix) - Lune
  3. Feel So Close (Benny Benassi Remix) - Calvin Harris
  4. So Much Love - Fedde Le Grand
  5. Techno Fan (Afrojack Extended Club Remix) - The Wombats
  6. Sweet Dreams (Gregori Klosman Remix) - Avicii
  7. Lick The Rainbow - Mord Fustang
  8. Dovregubben - Zedd
  9. 360°F - Andrea Bertolini
  10. Set Fire To The Rain (Thomas Gold Remix) - Adele
  11. Memories (90’s Piano Mix) - Michael Cassette
  12. You’ve Got The Love (Mark Knight Remix) - Florence and the Machine
  13. Sun To Me (Mark Knight Co-Production Mix) - Faithless
  14. Not Over Yet (Max Graham vs Protoculture Remix) - Grace

This is the last Disco Potential post of 2011. Have a safe and happy New Year. We’ll be back the first week of January.

Cheeky classical samples, boshing electro house, dubsteppy bits and vocal dance pop comprise this edition of Five Tracks, perfect for your summer weekend. You can download it by right-clicking here, or use the Tumblr playback function. I recommend the former, as I am wont to do.

  1. Save The World (Knife Party Remix) - Swedish House Mafia
  2. Underworld - Elevic
  3. Dovregübben - Zedd
  4. The Uprising - Hypster
  5. Bounce (Extended Mix) - Calvin Harris featuring Kelis
